Photonics Applications Week welcomes Fibre Systems magazine as Media Partner

About Fibre Systems
Fibre Systems has been a trusted source of information for the optical communications industry since 2013. It covers the entire value chain from components, subsystems and network equipment manufacturers and distributors to network planners, systems integrators, operators and end users of fibre-optic networks worldwide. The most pressing issues that affect and shape the fibre-optic systems market are addressed, including technologies, applications, business and regulatory issues.

Published quarterly, with a newly introduced fifth issue in November, Fibre Systems is available in print and digital formats with a regularly updated website www.fibre-systems.com, a monthly email newsletter, and a video channel.

About Photonics Applications Week (PHAPPS Week)
Photonics Applications Week (PHAPPS Week) 2019 takes place from September 30 to October 04, 2019 in the Brainport Region (Eindhoven / Helmond, The Netherlands).

PHAPPS Week is an umbrella event, focused on real life applications of photonics in various domains and includes workshops, conferences, exhibitions, lectures, networking events, debates and hackathons organised by different companies and institutions involved in Photonics.

Each weekday will have a focus on one or more specific vertical/applications areas. Per day we invite organisations to organise events for instance in healthcare topics like oncology, dermatology etc. They are free to fill in the content of the program, but the program committee will curate whether it fits or not and will also provide guidance/advice so that there are no conflicting events. These activities can be free and/or paid, but must fit in the schedule / program.

International Gymnastics Federation, Fujitsu announce joint judging support system

Lausanne, Switzerland, and Tokyo, Japan, November 20, 2018 The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and Fujitsu Limited today announced their decision to practically implement a judging support system which they have been developing, with the aim of achieving real time judging support that is fair and accurate. The judging support system will now be tested at a forthcoming World Cup event and targeted for deployment at the 2019 World Championships held by FIG, a global organization that governs gymnastics disciplines, including artistic and rhythmic gymnastics.In addition, FIG and Fujitsu have signed a contract for a new partnership program to promote the deployment of the judging support system to be used by its Continental Unions and Member Federations for training and education purposes and for use at their competitions. Airbus Netherlands and TNO partner towards the realisation of optical satellite communication

At the inaugural event of the new Airbus production facility for space technology, Airbus Netherlands and TNO announced their cooperation for the development of a next-generation optical ground stations in the gigabit range. This is an important step towards the realisation of optical satellite communication. Almost all the data connections in space are based on radio-frequency electromagnetic waves. The new systems for optical satellite communication use laser light to make communications faster, more secure and cheaper.
